This is the feeling we get after wandering along the mountain paths and rivers that bring us to the Schist Villages of Ferraria de São João, in Penela, and Cerdeira, in Lousã. Arriving via Coimbra, Guarda or Castelo Branco, we soon enter another ancient world, where ancient tracks connect village to village and the landscape where culture and traditions are preserved. Surprise yourself by exploring the Schist Paths and mountain villages where you can still experience traditional knowledge and flavours. Making fresh goat’s cheese, kneading and baking bread in a wood oven, making things from wood and clay are just some of the activities that will enrich these days spent in the heart of rural Portugal.
Accommodation is in stone houses that have been renovated and transformed into comfortable rural tourism units, surrounded by nature in all its splendour. A journey back in time that you won’t forget quickly!

Day 1
Lisbon Airport/Porto I Coimbra
Catching the train to Coimbra, with transfer to the Schist Village of Ferraria de São João
Visit to community livestock pens and other points of interest in the village
Accommodation: VN Nature Houses.
Meals included: Dinner

Day 2
Workshops on Fresh Goat’s Cheese and Bread in a Wood Oven
Cheese workshop: In the afternoon, a workshop on fresh goat’s cheese.
Dinner and bed at Ferraria de São João
Accommodation: VN Nature Houses.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Day 3
Trip to the Schist Village of Cerdeira
A walk round the Schist Village of Cerdeira
Traditional Portuguese Cuisine Workshop (Chanfana)
Accommodation: Cerdeira - Home for Creativity
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 4
Schist Atelier
Workshop in Wood or Clay (to be decided)
Free time to relax and enjoy the village
Dinner: Menu prepared during the Traditional Cooking Workshop

Day 5
Transfer back to Coimbra
