From a small village near Mafra, Ana first came into contact with wood through her grandfather in his carpentry workshop, a place of fascination for her. When she carved her first spoon in 2018, Ana felt like she was coming home.
Self-taught, she learnt by trial and error, but also developed her learning through participation in international spoon carving festivals and workshops with other artisans. Today, Ana shares the joy of her work in different ways, whether it's selling her creations, supplying prepared wood for others to spoon carve or running workshops.
Sílvio Soares
Sílvio was one of the first guests to visit Cerdeira and remembers the village still in ruins. Captivated by the Serra da Lousã and this creative corner, Sílvio is now part of our family! As well as assisting in our courses with Peter Lanyon, his experience is also built up as an instructor in the Escola do Mato project in Sesimbra. Characterised by his friendliness and generosity, Silvio will infect us with his passion for wood, teaching us not only how to make wooden spoons, but also how to respect this noble material and how to work it safely.
Ana and Silvio are both instructors at the Escola do Mato project. Find out more about their work here.
