The Sound Masks course will provide an immersive learning experience connected to the five elements - clay, water, air, fire and sound. From Argentina to Cerdeira, we invited Martin and Julieta to teach an ancient practice with a contemporary approach, the fruit of their research and experimentation in the field.
We begin this 10-day course with the sound ceremony - the gateway to the world of sound ceramics. Faced with the multiple sound possibilities offered by ceramics, we will stimulate our sensitivity and intention, which will accompany us throughout the course.
Then, with all the necessary materials and tools, each participant will create their own ceramic mask, inspired by ancient cultures and aesthetics.
Finally, the group will build a cylindrical brick kiln, where the pieces produced in the course will be fired.
Programme:
> Sound Ceremony;
> Theoretical introduction to sound ceramics - the importance of these sound objects, and their history in ancient America and the present;
> Yerba mate ceremony;
> Design and construction of a sound mask;
> Sound system - aerophone and idiophone;
> Surface finishing and ornamentation;
> Construction of a cylindrical brick oven;
> Wood-fired cooking;
> Waterproofing the masks and incorporating other materials.
> Collective sound action and farewell ritual.
