Ceramics I Glazed from Rocks Course - 3 to 12 December
*Price per person

Serra da Lousã

Using rocks and ash to make ceramic glazes requires a deeper understanding of the materials, but it gives you the opportunity to have a unique expression in ceramics and create striking pieces that contain memories and the history of the places from which the materials originate. And this is the challenge set by the Ceramics - Glazed from Rocks course.

Led by Matthew Blakely, the course takes place in the Schist Village of Cerdeira from 3 to 12 December. Inspired by the practical approach of his artistic education in Australia and the enormous potential of natural materials, Matthew creates his work from rocks, clays, shales and ashes that he has collected from various locations in the UK.

In this course, he shares his in-depth knowledge of these materials, opening the door for participants to learn how to prepare their own glazes from various rocks, such as the traditional schist from Cerdeira or the rocks and wood ash they can bring from home.
